Lakes newcomer Carmelo Anthony was asked during preseason if he thought about a possibility of winning the Sixth Man of the Year award this season.
Eleven games into the regular season, the 37-year-old forward is among the top performers in the NBA that come off the bench. His latest performance was 29 points in 37 minutes in a win over the Charlotte Hornets.
After the game, Anthony Davis was asked to share his thoughts on Melo’s contributions to the team. “He’s a shooter, he just score,” AD said. “I don’t know how many points he had but he had a lot. It’s not a fluke.
“When he’s open, we try to find him. Any time he shoots the ball, I think it’s going in. He just gives us confidence, he gives us momentum, crowd gets into it, bench gets into it. It’s just a different type of feeling when he shoots the ball and it goes in, especially at three.
“He gets us height, gets us excited to go on the other end, get a stop, try to find him again. Now we just need the same thing on the road.”
