Cleveland Cavaliers scoring guard Collin Sexton has been ruled out indefinitely after he was forced to leave Sunday’s contest against the Knicks, the team announced.
The team said Sexton has a meniscus tear in his knee, which will require additional testing and evaluation. The Cavs did not say anything about surgery.
A first-round Draft pick in 2018, Sexton is averaging 16.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 28.7 minutes per game. The 22-year-old averaged 24.3 points in 60 games for Cleveland last season.
The absence of Sexton will test Cleveland’s depth and force coach J.B. Bickerstaff to make adjustments regarding his team rotation.
Sexton is in line to receive a new contract next summer, as he entered the last year of his rookie deal. With Sexton out, Ricky Rubio could get more playing time, while Isaac Okoro, who returns from injury, could also receive an extended amount of minutes.
