No timetable yet for Hachimura to play, but return will be ‘sooner rather than later’ – Wizards HC Unseld Jr.

Washington Wizards head coach Wes Unseld Jr. gave an interesting update about Rui Hachimura’s availability.

Hachimura, who has been on an excused leave since September due to personal reasons, has no timetable for his return yet, as per the rookie lead tactician. Yet, he argued that the rising star’s return to the hardwood will be ‘sooner rather than later’.

“I don’t have a timetable, but I would agree with [‘sooner rather than later’],” Unseld said Thursday. “He’s been around more, he’s working out, so it’s good to have him in the building and be present.”

Unseld pointed out that Hachimura’s challenges for now are learning the terminologies he inserted on the Wizards as their latest head coach, followed by familiarizing himself with the new faces on the squad. He added further that although doing individual workouts and not present in team practices, the Japanese pride is taking plenty of notes on Washington’s video playbook.

Recently, Hachimura was seen by his teammates for the first time putting up some work in training facilities. It was also reported that he had a meaningful conversation with the leaders of the D.C. squad — perhaps a good sign of chemistry building in spite of the unavailability to collaborate between the two sides currently.

The Wizards are eyeing their sixth win of the season, set to face the visiting Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies tonight.
