James Wiseman getting closer to return, Golden State Warriors say

Golden State Warriors announced James Wiseman is getting closer to a return to the court, as he recovers from a torn meniscus in his right knee. The sophomore center rejoined full team activities on Monday.

That’s a big step for Wiseman, who went down with the knee injury last April. The Warriors have yet to determine a timetable for his return; however, he’s still not allowed to participate in the team’s scrimmages.

The Warriors are expected to send Wiseman to their G League affiliate before the coaching staff considers him ready to play for Golden State.

“I would like to go down there so that I just get sharp, physically (and) mentally,” Wiseman said after practice. “And I’m getting there, so whatever happens, I’m down for whatever. … I just need a lot of runs (and) a lot of playing time.”

As a rookie, Wiseman started the majority of his games, before his injury in mid-April. He will add much-needed size to the relatively “small” front-court of the Golden State Warriors.

More importantly, he will not have pressure to immediately contribute, as the Warriors are equipped with depth and veteran leadership this season.
