Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers provided an encouraging update on Ben Simmons, before Thursday’s game vs. Detroit. Rivers told reporters that Simmons was with the Sixers during their shootaround on Thursday.
According to the veteran coach, Simmons’ physical condition is getting better and better by the day; however, his mental situation regarding returning to action is still questionable.
Simmons and the 76ers have been at odds since the end of last season, as the 25-year-old demanded a trade. Last week, the three-time All-Star told the Sixers’ staff he was experiencing back discomfort.
Prior to that, Philadelphia general manager Daryl Morey said everyone “should buckle in” because he doesn’t anticipate settling for an offer worth less than what he believes Simmons is worth.
Simmons averaged 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.7 assists in 275 games with the Philadelphia 76ers. He was the DPOY award runner-up behind Rudy Gobert.
