Collin Sexton demands reportedly revealed after Cavaliers reject contract extension

Several young stars from the 2018 NBA draft received rookie-scale extensions, as the deadline passed Monday, however Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton was not among the players to receive one.

After the Cleveland Cavaliers denied Sexton’s extension, Chris Fedor of cleveland.com revealed the guard’s demands during the negotiations.

“Sexton, the No. 8 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and lone remaining piece of the Kyrie Irving trade, was hoping for a multi-year deal, north of $100 million, that aligned with his production over the first three years, a source said. There were multiple structures discussed. Different lengths. Incentives. Unique clauses. Bonuses. The Cavs never found a comfortable deal,” Fedor wrote.

Sexton is an elite scoring talent, but his defensive presence is questionable so far. In addition to that, Cleveland made some big splash moves this past offseason.

They signed Jarrett Allen to a $100 million deal and added Lauri Markkanen on $67 million for four years. Now, Sexton will have the chance to become a restricted free agent next season with the Cavs having the right to match any offer.
