Zion Williamson to miss start of regular season due to foot injury

Zion Williamson will miss the start of the season, as he’s still recovering from a foot surgery. The New Orleans Pelicans’ superstar underwent foot surgery during the offseason.

There was plenty of skepticism over that timetable earlier this week when head coach Willie Green said Williamson had not even begun running.

Now, general manager David Griffin revealed with optimism that Zion is ready for the next step of his recovery, after the surgeons reviewed his scans, per ESPN’s Andrew Lopez.

Williamson’s situation will be reviewed again in 2-2.5 weeks, so he won’t be able to play in the first week of the regular season at least.

The Pelicans have tended to take a very conservative approach to injuries when they are suffered by their young All-Star. New Orleans starts the regular season against Philadelphia on Oct.20.
