The return of Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks this past season made some people question whether it is a good decision as it could affect the growth of Immanuel Quickley. While Rose is an accomplished NBA veteran, Quickley was a rookie trying to establish himself in the league.
According to Rose, who won the MVP award in 2011, the concern about his impact on Quickley’s growth was unwarranted. Instead of taking over his playing time, the veteran point guard wanted his teammates, including the 22-year-old rookie, to feel free on the court.

“People were kind of worried about me coming in stunting Quick’s growth. Coming in, I just wanted them to play free and understand that if they get the ball, they don’t have to look for me. I’ll find a way to do my thing while I’m on the floor or try to affect the game in my little way without hurting or stunting someone’s growth.”
This past season, Quickley averaged 11.4 point, 2.1 rebounds and 2. assists in 19.4 minutes per game for the Knicks. Meanwhile, Rose averaged 14.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 26.8 minutes per game since his return to New York.
