Warriors’ Steve Kerr shares thoughts on Jonathan Kuminga’s role this season

Golden State Warriors will try to return to the post-season this year, assembling a roster that blends veteran leadership with a bunch of rookies and other young players.

Steve Kerr made a statement on the role of rookie forward Jonathan Kuminga, who will have his first taste of NBA basketball in the first Warriors’ preseason game Monday vs. the Trail Blazers.

(via Bleacher Report):

“I think that’s kind of the question going into the year. It’s what we’re going to have to figure out. He’s an enormously talented young guy. He’s got some great qualities right away that jump out. He’s amazing in transition. You know, he’s a physical specimen,” Kerr said on a recent press conference.

“…Key for him is going to be playing defense, picking up our schemes and coverages and tendencies of his opponents, all that kind of stuff. If we feel like we can count on him defensively, he’s showing quite a bit offensively. That could earn him some minutes. But we’ll see.”

Kuminga has some experience of playing with NBA-ready talent, as he spent last season in the G League. In the future, the rookie forward could be considered an All-Star talent in a few seasons.

The Warriors will face the Lakers on the opening day of the 2021-22 regular season to start the new season, as they hope to improve and win a place in the playoffs.
