Newly acquired Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Malik Monk insists he does not care about starting for the team next season.

Monk is one of the younger players on the Lakers roster and is one of just five squad members under the age of 30 signed to the team. He has been somewhat of a disappointment following the Charlotte Hornets’ decision to draft him at No.11 in 2017 but has shown glimpses of the star he looked to be while at college.

Monk showed improved shooting last season, hitting 40 percent of his threes, and would do well to show that it wasn’t a one-off in 2021/22. However, he claims he isn’t bothered with whether or not he starts.

“We haven’t talked about that yet,” he told reporters at media day on Tuesday. “I think we’re all just going to compete, man. I’m here. I don’t care if I start or come off the bench, I’m just here to be the best Malik I can be for the Lakers.”

The 23-year-old joined the Lakers on a one-year deal worth $1,789,256 in early August and is part of a new-look squad aiming to win a second NBA championship in three seasons.
