This summer Jared Dudley retired from playing basketball after not getting a spot on the Los Angeles Lakers roster. The 36-year-old took on an assistant coach role under Jason Kidd on the Dallas Mavericks.

However, prior to this move he had conversations with the Lakers about him taking a non-playing role on the team, including a broadcasting position. Dudley’s choice was to remain actively involved in basketball.

Per Bill Oram, Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic:

“At the end of the season, sources said, the Lakers did have conversations with Dudley about other potential roles in the organization, including broadcasting, but ultimately he opted for a front-of-the-bench coaching position with Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks.”
