Russell Westbrook drops 9 places in latest Sports Illustrated ranking

The new Los Angeles Lakers point guard Russell Westbrook is coming off his fourth season in which he averaged a triple-double. Despite the impressive statistic, he was ranked lower by Sports Illustrated compared to the year before.

The 32-year-old former NBA MVP dropped from the 25th place to the 34th. His style of play — scoring almost by brute force — played a part in his ranking. According to Rohan Nadkarni, who provided the commentary of Westbrook’s ranking, him playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis could help him change the way he is seen as a player.

Via Sports Illustrated:

“Westbrook is always one of the hardest players to rank in an exercise like this. Seemingly through brute force, Russ is going to put up numbers. If there was ever a chance for Westbrook to own the narrative about his style of play, it will be this season playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. — RN [Rohan Nadkarni]”
