Golden State Warriors governor Joe Lacob casts major doubt on whether the franchise could trade for Philadelphia 76ers All-Star Ben Simmons.

The Warriors’ owner claimed that the Australian point forward ‘doesn’t really fit’ with what the Dubs are doing as they have Draymond Green as their main playmaker.

(via Rusty Simmons of San Francisco Chronicle):

“In some ways, it doesn’t really fit what we’re doing. He makes a lot of money. And, can he finish games? I don’t know,” Lacob said. “He’s very talented. The problem is: We have Draymond. Draymond and him are very similar in the sense that neither one really shoots and they do a lot of the playmaking. That’s one issue. The salary structure is another.”

Simmons asked out of Philadelphia after his disappointing performances in the 2021 postseason, especially in the series vs. the Atlanta Hawks.

Several reports suggest the Sixers’ asking price remain exorbitant, as they are hoping to get back an All-Star caliber player. Simmons is set to make $33 million in 2021-22 season.

He is one of the most versatile defenders in the NBA, being the runner-up for the DPOY award last season. His inability to factor the offence similarly is what makes him a vulnerability for any team, especially in the playoffs.
