Dr. J: “Pete Maravich on the ground and me in the air changed basketball”

During the 1970’s, Julius Erving and Pete Maravich brought an excitement to basketball the game had never seen before.

Dr. J wowed fans with his jumping ability for dunks at the rim, while Pistol Pete showed off unique playmaking skills with the ball in his hands.

Erving spoke about himself and Maravich’s impact on the evolution of basketball in a recent interview with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles.

(Via Knuckleheads with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles):

“I’ve looked at us as The Game Changers. Just from the generation before to what was happening in the eras in which we played, I mean Earl Monroe did all kind of stuff on the ground, but he didn’t really do nothing that Pete Maravich didn’t do. Pete Maravich on the ground and me in the air changed basketball. There’s no going back after it gets changed.”
