Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is ready to enter his fourth NBA season as the rising star of a young core in Oklahoma. The Canadian did not hesitate to express his lofty career goals in an interview with GQ’s Tyler Tynes.
SGA will have plenty of chances to develop his game next season, as the OKC Thunder is expected to be among the lottery teams.
“I want to be one of the best point guards to ever play,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “I’m not playing this game just to be a good basketball player. I want to be one of the greatest to ever play.”
The promising guard made huge leaps in the last two seasons, after averaging 10.8 points per game as a rookie with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2018-19.
Gilgeous-Alexander improved his scoring average to 19 points per contest during his sophomore year. Last year, he amped up his coring again, averaging 23.7 points in 35 games.
His latest season in OKC was cut short due to a plantar fascia tear. Despite that, he averaged career-highs in scoring, assists (5.9), field-goal percentage (50.8%), and 3-point percentage (41.8%).
