Marc Gasol never got over Lakers demoting him for Andre Drummond, per report

Marc Gasol became a free agent last week after the Los Angeles Lakers agreed to send him to the Memphis Grizzlies. The veteran center became a free agent afterwards, and he could play overseas next season.

According to Bill Oram of The Athletic, the Spanish national never got over the Lakers’ decision to demote him mid-season for Andre Drummond.

As a result, the Lakers created an unnecessary logjam in the center position with Drummond, Gasol, and Harrell, who was also part of the roster.

Gasol returned to the Lakers’ lineup at end of the regular season and the first-round matchup vs. the Phoenix Suns. However, the Lakers could not get past Phoenix.

Gasol’s shooting and passing stand in stark contrast to Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan, both of whom are more liable to play close to the basket.

As a result, the veteran center could have an important role in the Lakers’ lineup this season, but the LA franchise never found a way to manage him in a proper way.
