The Brooklyn Nets are trading DeAndre Jordan, four future second-round picks and $5.78 million to the Detroit Pistons for Jahlil Okafor and Sekou Doumbouya, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Pistons plan to work through a buyout with Jordan and the Nets will save $47 million in salary that can be reinvested into free agents at mid-level exceptions, Wojnarowski notes.
Once Jordan becomes a free agent after the buyout, the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to be a serious contender to sign the veteran center, confirming previous reports.
Jordan, 33, averaged 7.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 blocks per game in 57 games last season, but fell out of the rotation late in the regular season and in the playoffs.
It’s currently unclear if either Doumbouya or Okafor will be in the Nets’ plans, but Doumbouya, 20, might have a better chance than Okafor of making the roster.
In another move, the Nets are planning to waive forward Alize Johnson, according to Wojnarowski.
The Nets are “fond” of the 25-year-old, but they have several players at his position and will allow him to have a shot to play elsewhere.
