The draw ceremony for the FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifiers took place today at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball.

This was the first step for national teams that will be competing for spots at the FIBA World Cup 2023.

The 2023 event, which will be held in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, is the first time in the competition’s history that a World Cup will be staged in more than one country.

The qualifying process for the FIBA World Cup 2023 will take place in six windows over the course of 15 months across the four regions of Africa, Americas, Asia/Oceania and Europe.

A total of 80 national teams were drawn in four different draws, one for each region.

The first window of play begins in November 2021.

Each national team will play home and away games across the six qualifying windows to try and clinch their spot among the 30 teams that will join hosts the Philippines and Japan in the final 32-team field.

Indonesia, the third host of the FIBA World Cup 2023, will have to qualify for the event.

If they finish in the top eight at the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 rescheduled for 2022, they will then directly qualify for the World Cup.
