The Los Angeles Lakers have not ended the roster building process. The 2020 NBA champions added 8 new players to the roster, namely Russell Westbrook, Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington, Carmelo Anthony, Kent Bazemore, Malik Monk and Kendrick Nunn, with guaranteed contracts.

As a result, the Lakers now have 12 players on the roster with guaranteed contracts. Reportedly, the team is looking to add two more players to use the room that the NBA rules allow which is to have 15 players on the roster. The Lakers are not rushing the process. They have recently worked out free agents Isaiah Thomas, Mike James and Darren Collison.

Via Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports:

“The Lakers, who have 12 players under guaranteed contracts, will go into the 2021-22 season carrying 14 players in order to maintain flexibility, sources said. Each team can carry a maximum of 15 players and two two-way players.

“A third point guard is a priority, sources said, along with potentially adding another wing.”
