Marcus Smart extended his contract with the Boston Celtics and is expected to have a key role for the team next season.

Smart will remain with Boston for many years, after signing a four-year, $77M extension and is set to become the starting point guard of the Celtics.

“I’m told Smart is slated to become the starting point guard for the Celtics this upcoming season. He’s become the heart and soul of these Celtics. A culture setter, a leader around the team. And this extension now solidifies his future in Boston,” Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

The 27-year-old guard averaged career-highs last season (his seventh year in Boston), averaging 13.1 points and 5.7 assists.
