Boston Celtics leading guard Marcus Smart has agreed to a four-year, $77.1M contract extension with the team, per Shams Charania of the Athletic.

Last season, Smart had the best year of his career, averaging career highs in points (13.1) and assists (5.7) in Boston. He led the Celtics to seven playoffs appearances in his first seven seasons in the league.

The Celtics’ veteran guard showed great leadership as the team’s starting guard in the last few seasons. Smart was set to enter the final season of his previous contract that earns him $13.8 million.

Smart is a valuable all-around player for the Celtics, being one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. The Oklahoma State alum was named to the All-Defensive first team in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
