Collin Sexton could remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers after all, as both sides are willing to enter negotiations for a contract extension, per SB Nation’s Evan Dammarell.

Sexton, who is entering the last season of his rookie contract, is eligible for a rookie scale extension. Cleveland was not expected to give up a good amount of their valuable cap space for the promising guard; however they now seem willing to commit to Sexton with a contract extension.

Sexton is coming off an impressive campaign for the Cavs, leading the team with 24.3 points per game while dishing out 4.4 assists. The former Alabama guard shot an impressive 47 percent from the field this past season.

The Cavaliers are building a young, promising core around Sexton, who was the most productive player for them last year. This offseason, they signed Jarrett Allen to a four year, $100M contract, while they drafted Evan Mobley with the third overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft.

Sexton doesn’t become a free agent until next summer, therefore the Cavs would ideally like to start negotiating prior to the 2022 NBA offseason.
