Dennis Schroder will enter free agency on August 2 hoping to find a multi-year, lucrative deal. The New York Knicks are seeking a starting caliber point guard this offseason and Schroder is reportedly considered the “most likely” to sign with NY, per Marc Berman of New York Post.

“The most likely Knicks catch would be Lakers point guard Dennis Schroder, a solid defender and playmaker who may be expendable now that the Lakers have landed Russell Westbrook. The Knicks scouted Schroder intensely this season to make sure the German native is a fit for coach Tom Thibodeau,” Berman wrote.

Schroder, who is an unrestricted free agent, is considered expendable for the Los Angeles Lakers after the deal that brought Russell Westbrook to LA. With Westbrook’s contract in the books, the Lakers are not expected to have the cap space to sign the German guard.

New York ended a seven-year playoff drought by earning the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference last season, but their postseason run ended quickly with a first-round loss to Atlanta.

The Knicks struggled to score in the postseason once All-Star Julius Randle went cold, with Derrick Rose being the only player capable of creating scoring opportunities vs. the Hawks.

Schroder spent last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 15.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
