The Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James flipped his position on the play-in tournament this past season. After welcoming the format change in the Orlando bubble in 2020, the four-time NBA champion was openly critical of the play-in tournament when it was kept in 2021.

According to NBA commissioner Adam Silver, he talked with James which made him understand the needs of the league. The Lakers had to earn their place in the playoffs through the play-in tournament this past season. The league announced that the format will be used during the 2021-2022 season.

“We talked about it,” Silver told us. “I think at the end of the day, I understand. Especially if you went deep last year and you have that end, you have that many sort of games on your legs.”

“You’re not looking forward to more games. But, I think he understands the context of the league.”
