Clippers, Celtics interested in acquiring Ricky Rubio via trade, per report

Ricky Rubio has been excellent in the preliminary round of the Olympic basketball tournament in Tokyo, leading the Spanish national team to two wins so far.

According to Darren Wolfson, the LA Clippers and the Boston Celtics are among teams interested in trading for the Timberwolves’ point guard.

The veteran guard will enter the last year of his current deal, and several teams could inquire about his availability. Rubio, 30, joined Minnesota last summer after he was shipped from the Phoenix Suns to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Rubio recorded 8.6 points, 6.4 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game during the 2020-21 season, his tenth year in the league.

The 5th pick of the 2009 NBA Draft is currently in Tokyo with the Spanish national team. He put up 22 points and nine assists in the opening game vs. Japan, while he logged 26 points, five rebounds and four assists in the second game of the preliminary round vs. Argentina.

Spain is up 2-0 in the Tokyo Olympics, having a secured place in the knockout stage of the tournament.
