Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Lionel Hollins is no longer with the team, according to Jovan Buha and Sam Amick of The Athletic.
Hollins’ contract ended and the two sides did not agree to new terms.
He has been on the Lakers’ staff for the last two seasons and won the championship with the team in 2020.
Hollins has been previously mentioned as a candidate for a lead assistant role with the Portland Trail Blazers under new head coach Chauncey Billups.
The 67-year-old said that he is open to coaching again given the right opportunity and that he enjoyed his two years with the Lakers, notes Kyle Goon of the Southern California News Group.
The Lakers are expected to move assistant Mike Penberthy to a front-of-the-bench role on Frank Vogel’s staff, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein.
Penberthy has been with the Lakers for the last two seasons like Hollins.
The 46-year-old previously was a private shooting coach before he started working with Anthony Davis as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans.
