Team USA News: NBA Finals, Johnson, McGee, Grant, LaVine, 1st Game

With the NBA Finals now officially over, Team USA can finally be together as a full group. USA was missing Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, and Devin Booker during the exhibition session, three players who can make the game a lot easier on both sides of the ball.

While Team USA’s 2-2 Pre-Olympic record out in Las Vegas seemed like a big deal to some, the club was mostly focused on getting a set 12 man roster before Tokyo, as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Bradley Beal and Kevin Love will be replaced by Keldon Johnson and JaVale McGee

Here’s more from Team USA:

  • Jerami Grant cleared health and safety protocols on Sunday and played in USA’s final exhibition game vs. Spain, tweets Marc Berman of The New York Post. He scored 5 points and grabbed 3 rebounds in 11 minutes.
  • Another Team USA player recently out with protocols was Zach LaVine, but according to NBC Sports , LaVine is quickly back and ready to go. The 26-year-old joined his teammates in Tokyo on Thursday afternoon.
  • USA head coach Gregg Popovich hasn’t forgotten his team’s loss at the 2019 FIBA World Cup to France, writes Brian Windhorst of ESPN. “We’ve been preparing for France for two years,” Popovich said. “I think about it every day.” USA will go up against the French national team on July 25th in a highly anticipated Olympic opener.
