Portland Trail Blazers are seeking to improve their squad ahead of the 2021-22 regular season, hoping to build a strong core around Damian Lillard.
According to Jason Quick of the Athletic, the Blazers have turned down several offers for CJ McCollum as they were offered top-tier picks in exchange for the veteran scoring guard.
Teams are calling the Blazers and asking for CJ McCollum and, in return, offering Portland a chance to get into the top part of the draft. But Portland is not entertaining those offers because it is in a win-now phase and looking for veterans more than rookies to build around.
Last season, the Blazers finished the year with a disappointing first round exit to the undermanned Denver Nuggets. Following another early playoff exit, Portland parted ways with Terry Stotts and appointed Chauncey Billups as their new head coach.
However, they are trying to improve the team as they are hoping to create a real contender around Damian Lillard. It seems the Portland Trail Blazers are looking at how they can bolster their roster with veterans, rather than focusing on getting young players.
A better option would be to get Damian Lillard an All-Star presence alongside him, but it is unclear whether there’s a viable option to do that via a McCollum trade.
