Nigeria’s win over USA proves Mike Brown deserves another NBA head coaching job

Nigeria knocked off the United States on Saturday in a 90-87 exhibition win, led by Golden State Warriors associate head coach Mike Brown. The 51-year-old had his young group playing hard all night, as performances from Gabe Vincent (21 points, 6-8 3-PT) & Caleb Agada (17 points, 3-3 3-PT) helped secure the win.

When it comes to his coaching career, Brown’s resume is quite impressive. He went 347-216 during his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2005-2010, 2013-2014) & Los Angeles Lakers (2011-2012), to go along with a trip to the NBA Finals in 2007 and Coach of the Year honors in 2009.

Experienced coaching won out during this NBA postseason, and that’s something Brown can offer at a very high level to any team. All four coaches in both Conference Finals last month (Mike Budenholzer, Monty Williams, Nate McMillan, and Ty Lue) have been through the grind of extended seasons many times in their careers, which is a formula that teams should take notice of when searching for a new coach in the future.

Brown is currently sitting comfortably as Steve Kerr’s top assistant with Golden State, but there’s no doubt he deserves another shot at an NBA head coaching position one day.
