The Orlando Magic are closing in on Dallas Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley and he’s emerged as the strong frontrunner to become the franchise’s next head coach, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Conversations are ongoing, but Mosley, 42, has separated himself in the organization’s process, adds Wojnarowski.

The Magic are currently in rebuilding mode with a roster full of young players and Mosley’s reputation in player development, his ability to build relationships and hold players accountable has “resonated” with the front office.

The team has two lottery picks in this year’s draft along with a young core that includes Cole Anthony, Chuma Okeke, Mo Bamba, Wendell Carter Jr. and R.J. Hampton.

Mosley has been with the Mavericks since the 2014-15 season and also spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets.

Another finalist for the Magic job is Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr., who is also a leading candidate for the Washington Wizards’ job, according to Wojnarowski.

Unseld is scheduled to have a follow-up interview with the Wizards on July 9.
