Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards suffers sprained ankle

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards suffered a sprained ankle during practice for the USA Select Team against Team USA in Las Vegas, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

The injury is not believed to be serious, but he’ll be out for the rest of training camp.

It occurred during a scrimmage when Edwards stepped on Team USA’s Draymond Green’s foot, notes Windhorst.

Edwards, 19, finished runner-up in the Rookie of the Year Award to LaMelo Ball and averaged 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 41.7 percent from the field.

NBA training camp starts Sept. 28 and the 2021-22 season tips off on Oct. 19, so Edwards has some time to rest and recover from the injury.

Team USA, meanwhile, has an upcoming scrimmage on July 10 against Nigeria as they continue to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics.
