76ers’ Doc Rivers’ on Ben Simmons’ future: “I want him back. He’s terrific”

Ben Simmons’ future with the Philadelphia 76ers is still unclear as the Sixers are heading to a crucial offseason for the franchise.

Head coach Doc Rivers said he’s hopeful the All-Star point guard will return to the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2021-22 NBA season despite trade rumors.

“Ben’s great,” Rivers told TMZ Sports in an interview released Saturday. “I want him back. He’s terrific. He’ll be great. I think he doesn’t need a lot of fixing. He’s gonna be great for us. He’ll be great.”

Simmons came off a disappointing postseason with Philadelphia, scoring 19 total points in the last three games of the series vs. the Hawks.

Eventually, the Sixers fell to the Hawks in seven games for another second round exit, the second in the last three seasons. It’s unclear whether Simmons will remain or not with the team past the offseason, as the Sixers have reportedly ‘fielded offers’ for their point-forward.

Last season, Simmons averaged 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.6 steals during the regular season while earning his second straight NBA All-Defensive first-team selection.
