The Washington Wizards interviewed Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell for their head coach vacancy today, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic.

Cassell, who finished his first season with the 76ers, was previously an assistant with the Wizards from 2009-2014.

The 51-year-old has a reputation for his strong player development.

Cassell was also an assistant on Doc Rivers’ staff with the Los Angeles Clippers from 2014-2020.

He and Denver Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr. have been mentioned as the frontrunners for the Wizards’ job, after the team parted ways with Scott Brooks when the two sides didn’t reach a contract extension agreement.

If Cassell ultimately lands a head coaching job, it will be his first time as a head coach.
