The Senegalese national team will not participate in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia due to COVID-19 related issues.

Three players and a coach tested positive before a recent preparation game against Germany and the team was unable to get clearance to travel to Belgrade.

Senegal was set to be in Group B and play Italy and Puerto Rico, and those two teams have now been awarded automatic wins via forfeit, FIBA announced.

The other remaining games in Belgrade have not been impacted and will go on as planned.

Without Senegal, Italy, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Philippines and Serbia will compete for the one available spot at the Tokyo Olympics.

FIBA will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation.
