Jacque Vaughn, Charles Lee reportedly the top two candidates for the Pelicans’ coaching gig

New Orleans Pelicans are still searching for their new head coach, after parting ways with Stan Van Gundy. According to Christian Clark of nola.com, two coaches seem to be the favorites to take over the Pelicans.

“At this stage, there are two candidates who are viewed as the strongest contenders to get the job, league sources said: Brooklyn Nets assistant Jacque Vaughn and Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee,” Clark reported.

Jacque Vaughn, 46, was among the candidates to coach the Brooklyn Nets, before the franchise hired Steve Nash as the head coach.

Vaughn, who, for the past five seasons, has been a Nets assistant, has previous experience as a head coach with the Orlando Magic. He also coached the Nets as an interim head coach in the Orlando ‘bubble’ last season.

On the other hand, Lee worked on Mike Budenzholzer’s Atlanta Hawks staff for four seasons, then followed Budenzholzer to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018.

Whoever gets the job is going to face immediate pressure, as New Orleans has finished in 13th and 11th place in the Western Conference in the past two years.
