Pelicans to interview two coaches for head coach vacancy

The New Orleans Pelicans have permission to interview Brooklyn Nets assistant Jacque Vaughn and Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee for the team’s head coaching job, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Vaughn has been an assistant with the Nets since 2016 and served as the interim head coach last season in the Orlando bubble.

The 46-year-old began his coaching career with the San Antonio Spurs from 2010-2012 before he became head coach of the Orlando Magic from 2012-2015, where he compiled a record of 58-158.

Lee has been an assistant under Mike Budenholzer since 2018 and began his coaching career in 2014 as an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks.

The 36-year-old has not been a head coach yet.

The Pelicans parted ways with Stan Van Gundy on June 16 after one season with the team.

Both Vaughn and Lee were also considered for the Pelicans job last year before Van Gundy was hired.

Los Angeles Lakers assistant Jason Kidd and Pelicans assistants Fred Vinson and Teresa Weatherspoon have also been mentioned as possible candidates receiving interest for the job.
