Luxembourg will now play in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Pre-Qualifiers Second Round, replacing Austria in Group C.

FIBA Europe invited Luxembourg after Austria’s decision to withdraw from the event due to internal reasons, according to FIBA.

Luxembourg was the next team in line as a replacement based on the results from the FIBA World Cup 2023 European Pre-Qualifiers First Round.

They will now compete against Sweden and host Portugal (Matosinhos) in Group C of the Second Round in a double round-robin format, as teams play each other twice.

The top two teams from each group of three will advance to the next round of qualifying.

The hosts of the other three Second Round bubble groups include Riga, Podgorica and Skopje.

In the first round of qualifying, Luxembourg finished third in Group B with a record of 2-4 behind Iceland (5-1) and Slovakia (3-3).

Big man Clancy Rugg led the way, averaging 21.5 points, 12.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
