Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni among three to interview for Trail Blazers job

Brooklyn Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni is interviewing for the Portland Trail Blazers coaching job today, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Two more assistant coaches, Los Angeles Clippers’ Chauncey Billups and San Antonio Spurs’ Becky Hammon, are set to interview with the Trail Blazers early this week too.

Seeking a replacement for Terry Stotts, the Trail Blazers are conducting a “very expansive, diverse search” for its next head coach, and there were “anywhere from 20 to 25 candidates,” general manager Neil Olshey said last week.

D’Antoni, 70, is in his first year on Steve Nash’s staff with the Nets after spending the last four years as head coach of the Houston Rockets.

Billups, 44, was previously labeled as the likely choice to be the team’s next head coach and also received approval from star Damian Lillard.

Along with the Trail Blazers, Hammon, 44, is also expected to interview for the Orlando Magic head coach opening.

Hammon, who has been on Gregg Popovich’s staff for seven years, became the first woman to act as head coach of an NBA team after Popovich was ejected from a game on Dec. 30.
