Steve Clifford won’t return as Magic head coach; Terry Stotts a potential replacement

As the Orlando Magic move into a full rebuilding process, head coach Steve Clifford and the franchise have agreed together to a parting, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The decision to mutually part ways was reached after several meetings between Clifford and the front office over recent weeks, Wojnarowski also notes.

Clifford, who had a record of 96-131 in three years with the Magic, led the team to two playoff appearances in 2019 and 2020.

The 59-year-old had one year left on his four-year contract.

The Magic will begin a coaching search immediately, joining the Boston Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers as teams with current head coach openings.

Terry Stotts, who just parted ways with the Trail Blazers, is drawing interest from the Magic, notes Marc Stein of The New York Times.

The coaching carousel is already circling.
