2020-2021 NBA Bench Players Who Stood Out: Eastern Conference

A bunch of bench players impacted winning in the Eastern Conference. Names like Chris Boucher, Bobby Portis, Derrick Rose, and TJ McConnell were very productive.

Philadelphia 76ers

Shake Milton: Milton played under control all season. One of the best guards off the bench in 2021 when it came to scoring and passing. 13.0 PPG, 3.1 APG

Furkan Korkmaz: The 23-year-old shot the ball well from deep in short minutes. Also made heads up passes and defended hard. 9.1 PPG, 37.5% 3-PT

Tyrese Maxey: Maxey’s potential was on full display in his rookie season. Exploded for a 39 point game vs. Denver in January. 8.0 PPG, 2.0 APG

Dwight Howard: The veteran big man definitely knows how to play this game. Takes the right shots, sets solid screens, defends and competes. 7.0 PPG, 8.4 RPG

George Hill: Hill’s basketball IQ and ball handling skills continue to stand out. Spent the start of the season with OKC before going to the Sixers. 8.7 PPG, 38.8% 3-PT

Matisse Thybulle: Defended and knocked down open looks on three-pointers. Averaged 1.1 BPG as well. 3.9 PPG, 1.6 SPG

Mike Scott: Didn’t shoot the ball well from the field, but competed hard and impacted winning. Shot 34.2% from three-point range. 4.2 PPG, 2.4 RPG

Paul Reed: The rookie displayed a nice feel for the game in short minutes. Earned G-League MVP honors for the Delaware Blue Coats. 3.4 PPG, 2.3 RPG

Isaiah Joe: Shot it well from deep early in the season when guys were out. Helped get Delaware to the G-League championship. 3.7 PPG, 36.8% 3-PT

Rayjon Tucker: Athleticism and dribbling abilities are clearly there. Showed he can drive and run the floor with Philly and in the G-League. 2.4 PPG, 50.0% FG

Mason Jones: Jones spent most of his rookie year with Houston before being waived by Philly. Looked impressive when it came to scoring and handling the ball. 5.3 PPG, 36.4% 3-PT

Brooklyn Nets 

Jeff Green: Green is a veteran anyone would want on their team. Shooting, defending and athleticism stood out for the Nets. 11.0 PPG, 41.2% 3-PT

Landry Shamet: Knocked down open looks on threes. Took on ball handling duties when needed. 9.3 PPG, 38.7% 3-PT

Bruce Brown: Played the right way all season, which resulted in big time success. Cutting ability, rebounding, defending and passing looked sharp. 8.8 PPG, 5.4 RPG

DeAndre Jordan: Jordan still brings a lot to a team. His screening, shot blocking, rebounding and activity around the rim were solid. 7.5 PPG, 1.1 BPG

Nicolas Claxton: Claxton has a bright future in this league. 7-footer who has strength, can shoot it, defend and jump. 6.6 PPG, 62.1 FG%

Mike James: Since coming over from the EuroLeague, James proved that he certainly belongs in the NBA. Has dribbling, isolation play, passing and shooting skills that fit today’s game perfectly. 7.7 PPG, 4.2 APG

Alize Johnson: Johnson brought great energy when his name was called. Went for a 20-20 game on April 29th vs. the Pacers. 5.2 PPG, 5.0 RPG

Tyler Johnson: The veteran understands winning basketball. Shot the ball well from three and played smart this season. 5.4 PPG, 36.4 3-PT%

Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot: TLC didn’t shoot it well from the field, but had some streaky scoring runs. He can definitely get going when he makes a few shots. 6.4 PPG, 2.2 RPG

Chris Chiozza: Handled and passed the ball well before going down with a right hand injury. Small guard with a solid basketball IQ. 4.0 PPG, 3.0 APG

Reggie Perry: The 2020 #57 overall pick showed toughness in short minutes. Competed hard with the Nets and in the G-League this season. 3.0 PPG, 2.8 RPG

New York Knicks

Derrick Rose: Rose was easily one of the bench players in the NBA this year. His experienced point guard skills impacted winning in a big way. 14.7 PPG, 4.2 APG

Alec Burks: Burks’ shot selection and three-point shooting helped New York to a playoff spot. Also averaged 2.2 APG and ran the pick & roll effectively. 12.7 PPG, 41.5% 3-PT

Immanuel Quickley: The rookie has supreme confidence. Didn’t back down from anyone and controlled the offense like a vet. 11.4 PPG, 2.0 APG

Nerlens Noel: The big man always takes the right shots and defends like few can in this league. Also averaged 1.1 SPG. 5.1 PPG, 2.2 BPG

Taj Gibson: Gibson’s screening, rebounding and competitiveness were at high levels. Knows what works to win. 5.4 PPG, 5.6 RPG

Obi Toppin: The rookie didn’t play many minutes this season, but you could see the potential. Showed great signs of athleticism, strength and energy. 4.1 PPG, 2.2 RPG

Kevin Knox: The former #9 overall pick in 2018 played consistently in limited time. The three-point shooting and offense are clearly there. 3.9 PPG, 39.3% 3-PT

Frank Ntilikina: Defended and knocked down three-pointers when given the minutes. Ntilikina’s jumper looked improved this season. 2.7 PPG, 47.9% 3-PT

Boston Celtics 

Robert Williams: The big man is only going to get better with time. Defense, pick & roll play, and finishing around the rim were very effective. 8.0 PPG, 1.8 BPG

Tristan Thompson: Thompson played hard, rebounded and set solid screens. Always takes high percentage shots and crashes the boards. 7.6 PPG, 8.1 RPG

Payton Pritchard: The rookie displayed solid shooting and ball handling abilities. Passing off dribble penetration for assists stood out as well. 7.7 PPG, 41.1% 3-PT

Jabari Parker: The 2014 #2 pick is now with the Celtics after being waived by Sacramento. Parker scored the ball very efficiently in limited time. 5.5 PPG, 54.5% FG

Aaron Nesmith: The rookie has a bright future. Nesmith’s shooting, rebounding and defense have high potential. 4.7 PPG, 2.8 RPG

Grant Williams: Improved his three-point shot this season. Can always be counted on to play extremely hard. 4.7 PPG, 37.2% 3-PT

Semi Ojeleye: Ojeleye took the right shots and defended with toughness. Experienced 3&D player for Boston. 4.6 PPG, 36.7% 3-PT

Romeo Langford: Missed most of the season, but displayed positive signs. Movement without the ball and defense are solid. 3.1 PPG, 1.9 RPG

Carsen Edwards: Proved he can get going on offense when he’s making shots. Quality shooting, ball handling and passing skills. 4.0 PPG, 84.6% FT

Tremont Waters: Point guard who pushed the ball and showed off a quick first step. Also improved his three-point shooting, as he shot 39.5% from deep. 3.8 PPG, 2.4 APG

Tacko Fall: The 7’5” center showed off his skillset in short minutes. His defense, strength in the post and shot selection stood out. 2.5 PPG, 1.1 BPG

Luke Kornet: Kornet can get it going from three and makes good decisions off the pick & roll. Passing ability for a big man is solid as well. 3.4 PPG, 2.2 RPG

Toronto Raptors

Chris Boucher: Played great on both ends. Boucher’s shooting, shot blocking, rebounding, running the floor and energy were all at high levels. 13.6 PPG, 6.7 RPG

Gary Trent Jr: Trent’s production went way up with more minutes this season. Exploded for a 44 point game on 17-19 from the field in April. 15.3 PPG, 38.5% 3-PT

Malachi Flynn: The 2020 first round pick displayed impressive point guard skills. He’s only going to get better with more experience, potential is high. 7.5 PPG, 2.9 APG

Khem Birch: Birch played the best basketball of his career when he joined Toronto after being waived by Orlando. Always makes a positive impact on the game. 7.2 PPG, 5.8 RPG

Aron Baynes: The former champ was a starter early on before moving to the bench. Still has solid shooting, toughness, rebounding, and screening skills. 6.1 PPG, 5.2 RPG

Freddie Gillespie: Undrafted rookie who proved he belongs in the NBA. Played hard defense, took high percentage shots and rebounded. 5.6 PPG, 1.0 BPG

DeAndre’ Bembry: Bembry’s impact on both ends can help any team off the bench. Runs the floor, defends and has underrated athleticism. 5.7 PPG 1.0 SPG

Yuta Watanabe: The 26-year-old knows what it takes to win and be efficient. Shooting and basketball IQ stood out. 4.4 PPG, 40.0% 3-PT FG

Rodney Hood: Didn’t have a productive season shooting the ball, but obviously the scoring is there. Had some nice games with Portland before being traded. 4.5 PPG, 85.7% FT

Stanley Johnson: Went off for a 35 point game at the end of the season. Improved his three-point shot, made the right passes and defended. 4.4 PPG, 2.5 RPG

Jalen Harris: Only appeared in 13 games, but made quite the impression. Confident rookie who balled out for 31 points vs. Dallas. 7.4 PPG, 47.2% 3-PT

Paul Watson: Watson can get it going when he’s making shots. Scored 30 points on 8 made three-pointers against Orlando in April. 4.1 PPG, 46.9% 3-PT

Atlanta Hawks

Bogdan Bogdanovic: The new Hawk shot a lights out 90.9% from the free throw line and also averaged 1.1 SPG. Stepped up in the starting lineup when De’Andre Hunter & Cam Reddish went down. 16.4 PPG, 43.8% 3-PT

Danilo Gallinari: Gallinari scored a career high 38 points on 10-12 from deep vs. Boston. Known for his consistent scoring ability. 13.3 PPG, 40.6% 3-PT

Lou Williams: Despite his minutes going down, he shot a career best from the three-point line. Played well with both the Clippers & Hawks this season. 11.3 PPG, 39.9% 3-PT

Kevin Huerter: Huerter improved his defense and averaged 1.1 SPG. Known shooter who has underrated ball handling and passing skills. 11.9 PPG, 3.5 APG

Tony Snell: Snell’s shooting numbers were a super efficient line of 51.5% FG/56.9% 3-PT/100.0% FT. Always takes the right shots and can play different roles. 5.3 PPG, 56.9% 3-PT

Solomon Hill: Hill’s NBA experience impacted winning for the Hawks. Defense and shooting are solid. 4.5 PPG, 3.0 RPG

Brandon Goodwin: Stepped up when he was needed to run point guard. Getting better every season. 4.9 PPG, 2.0 APG

Onyeka Okongwu: Didn’t play much, but looked like a top ten pick when he did. Went for a 21-15-3-2-2 game in the season finale. 4.6 PPG, 3.3 RPG

Nathan Knight: 6’10” undrafted rookie who helped make a difference when needed. Can play both inside and outside. 3.8 PPG, 2.2 RPG

Bruno Fernando: Only averaged 6.5 MPG, but made a positive mark. Screening, finishing and strength are there. 1.5 PPG, 2.4 RPG

Skylar Mays: Late second round pick who has a heads up basketball IQ. Effective dribbling, shooting and playmaking abilities. 3.8 PPG, 35.0% 3-PT

Miami Heat 

Tyler Herro: Herro’s APG, RPG and FG% all went up in 2021. Definitely improved other parts of his game besides shooting. 15.1 PPG, 5.0 RPG

Goran Dragic: A veteran you can count on to take over games. Shot a career best 82.8% from the free throw line. 13.4 PPG, 4.4 APG

Dewayne Dedmon: Played extremely hard off the bench. The big man’s shot selection, rebounding and defense are polished. 7.1 PPG, 70.8% FG

Andre Iguodala: Veteran who’s all about making winning plays. Takes the right shots and defends. 4.4 PPG, 3.5 RPG

Nemanja Bjelica: Bjelica spent time with both Sacramento & Miami this season. Solid strength and shooting. 6.5 PPG, 3.4 RPG

Precious Achiuwa: Rookie who brought great energy. 3 double-doubles, which included a 23 & 10 outing. 5.0 PPG, 3.4 RPG

Max Strus: Shooter who can get hot when he’s on. Underrated rebounding and passing skills for a guard. 6.1 PPG, 33.8% 3-PT

Gabe Vincent: Vincent made an impact on both ends. Had a 10 assist game and a few 20 point outings. 4.8 PPG, 1.3 APG

KZ Okpala: Athletic young player who has a smooth feel. Cutting, running the floor and defense are there. 2.5 PPG, 1.8 SPG

Charlotte Hornets

Devonte’ Graham: Graham is hard to stop when he’s in the zone. Has the shooting and playmaking to take over games. 14.8 PPG, 5.4 APG

Miles Bridges: Only getting better with time. Gifted athlete who was in the discussion for 6th Man of the Year. 12.7 PPG, 6.0 RPG

Malik Monk: Monk had the best season of his career so far. Lights out shooting to go along with ball handling and passing attributes. 11.7 PPG, 40.1% 3-PT

Jalen McDaniels: 23-year-old with a versatile skillset. Defended, ran the floor and didn’t back down from anyone. 7.4 PPG, 3.6 RPG

Cody Zeller: Experienced big man who plays the right way. Sets hard screens, takes efficient shots and has the strength to guard. 9.4 PPG, 6.8 RPG

Bismack Biyombo: Biyombo averaged 1.1 BPG in 20.4 MPG. High level rebounder who knows his role. 5.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG

Caleb Martin: Defense and running the floor stood out. Always stays ready to make an impact. 5.0 PPG, 2.7 RPG

Cody Martin: Went for a 13-10-5 game vs. Boston. He also had 4 steals in matchups against Milwaukee & Detroit. 4.0 PPG, 3.1 RPG

Brad Wanamaker: Wanamaker has effective ball handling and passing skills. Knows how to run an NBA offense off the bench. 5.5 PPG, 2.9 APG

Vernon Carey Jr: The rookie started in 4 games for Charlotte. Went off for a 21 & 6 line vs. Brooklyn. 2.4 PPG, 50.0% FG

Washington Wizards

Davis Bertans: Bertans is very difficult to stop when he’s hitting three-pointers. Shooting range for a big man is like few in the league. 11.5 PPG, 39.5% 3-PT

Daniel Gafford: Played energized for Washington once he was traded from Chicago. Shot blocker who never stops playing as hard as possible. 7.0 PPG, 1.4 BPG

Robin Lopez: Lopez shot the highest percentage of his career. Solid post moves and rebounding. 9.0 PPG, 63.3 FG%

Deni Avdija: The 2020 #9 pick went down with a right ankle fracture in April. Shooting, ball handling, strength and rebounding were effective. 6.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG

Raul Neto: Neto makes winning plays. Can run the point and also play off the ball. 8.7 PPG, 39.0% 3-PT

Ish Smith: Still has one of the quickest first steps in basketball. Veteran who runs offense off the bench with confidence. 6.7 PPG, 3.9 APG

Alex Len: Joined the Wizards after spending time with Toronto. Averaged 1.0 BPG and brought a powerful presence. 6.6 PPG, 4.1 RPG 

Garrison Matthews: Matthews started in 24 games this season. Solid 3&D skills to go along with his ball handling. 5.5 PPG, 38.4% 3-PT

Chandler Hutchison: Ran the floor hard, defended and shot a career high 36.4% from three. Was traded from Chicago with Gafford. 4.3 PPG, 3.1 RPG

Anthony Gill: Gill’s basketball IQ stood out in short minutes. Always takes the right shots and has the strength to rebound with bigs. 3.1 PPG, 50.0% FG

Isaac Bonga: Despite his minutes going down, Bonga is just 21-years-old and can definitely keep improving. Defender with length who has a good understanding of the game. 2.0 PPG, 1.7 RPG

Orlando Magic

Terrence Ross: Ross has been one of the NBA’s best bench scorers since going to Orlando back in 2017. Had a 30 point game vs. New York on 62.5% shooting in February. 15.6 PPG, 87.0% FT

Cole Anthony: The rookie saw starter minutes after Markelle Fultz went down. Ball handling, shooting, rebounding and passing were all impressive. 12.9 PPG, 4.1 APG

Dwayne Bacon: Bacon had a career season. Knows how to get points with the ball in his hands. 10.9 PPG, 82.4% FT

Chuma Okeke: Okeke has skills on both ends that are only getting better. Also averaged 1.1 SPG. 7.8 PPG, 2.2 APG

James Ennis: Shot a career best from deep, as his three-point shot looked improved. Plays with great energy. 8.4 PPG, 43.3% 3-PT

RJ Hampton: The rookie stuffed the stat sheet, almost putting up a triple double multiple times. Only 20-years-old with potential as a versatile guard. 6.9 PPG, 3.5 RPG

Mo Bamba: Bamba showed great signs towards the end of the season. Went for 15 rebounds or more in three straight games during early May. 8.0 PPG, 1.3 BPG

Otto Porter Jr: Missed a bunch of time, but shot the ball well from deep and made smart assists. Can defend different positions as well. 9.7 PPG, 37.5% 3-PT

Michael Carter-Williams: There’s no doubt his ball handling and passing skills are at a high level. Makes teammates want to run. 8.8 PPG, 4.2 APG

Chasson Randle: Randle’s dribbling and shooting abilities can make a difference when called on. Had a 7 assist game in February. 6.5 PPG, 33.8% 3-PT

Moritz Wagner: Wagner can put up 20 point games when he’s on. Scored 24, 21 & 20 points in games this year. 6.9 PPG, 34.1% 3-PT

Ignas Brazdeikis: Only played in 13 games total this season, but his toughness and shooting stood out. Had a great season in the G-League. 7.0 PPG, 39.3% 3-PT

Donta Hall: Soon to be 24-year-old with valuable experience in limited time. Active athleticism around the rim. 5.6 PPG, 4.8 RPG

Milwaukee Bucks

Bobby Portis: For someone who only played 20.8 MPG, his production was off the charts. Averaged 7.1 RPG and barely missed from the field. 11.4 PPG, 47.1% 3-PT

Bryn Forbes: The addition of Forbes helped the Bucks bench tremendously. Three-point shooting was super productive. 10.0 PPG, 45.2% 3-PT

Jeff Teague: Former All Star who started off the season with Boston. Veteran with point guard skills that can be counted on. 6.7 PPG, 2.4 APG

PJ Tucker: Tucker has always done what it takes to win. Found a good situation with Milwaukee after being with Houston. 3.7 PPG, 3.9 RPG

Pat Connaughton: Athleticism, shooting and defense continue to help the Bucks. Plays well alongside anyone. 6.8 PPG, 37.1% 3-PT

Jordan Nwora: The rookie showed off impressive scoring abilities. Put up games of 34, 24 & 21 points. 5.7 PPG, 45.2% 3-PT

Justin Jackson: Plays the right way and can shoot it. Was recently picked up by Milwaukee after being waived by OKC. 7.2 PPG, 2.3 RPG

Thanasis Antetokounmpo: Brings a high level of energy every possession. Worked on his three-point shot and has a nice feel for the game. 2.9 PPG, 2.2 RPG

Sam Merrill: The rookie can definitely make shots in a hurry. Shooter with underrated playmaking skills. 3.0 PPG, 44.7% 3-PT

Mamadi Diakite: Only played in 14 games, but showed off NBA ready skills. Big man who’s an athlete and can run the pick & roll. 3.1 PPG, 2.4 RPG

Indiana Pacers

TJ McConnell: McConnell’s point guard play off the bench is top notch. Had a triple double line of 16 points, 13 assists & 10 steals in March. 8.6 PPG, 6.6 APG

Doug McDermott: Shooting and movement without the ball are polished. Had the best season of his career and can definitely build off it. 13.6 PPG, 38.8% 3-PT

Justin Holiday: Experienced veteran who can shoot and defend. Has averaged 1 SPG or more during the last four seasons. 10.5 PPG, 38.2% 3-PT

Oshae Brissett: Brissett made All-NBA G-League Second Team honors before signing with Indiana. Rebounding and energy are at very high levels. 10.9 PPG, 1.0 BPG

Jeremy Lamb: Was out most of the season, but shot the ball efficiently. Very productive scorer. 10.1 PPG, 40.6% 3-PT

Aaron Holiday: Holiday’s scoring and playmaking skills are still getting better. Had a 12 assist game vs. Golden State. 7.2 PPG, 36.8% 3-PT

Edmond Sumner: Saw career highs in PPG, minutes and 3-point percentage. Athlete who gets out on the break. 7.5 PPG, 39.8% 3-PT

JaKarr Sampson: Experienced big man who can defend and plays hard. Definitely can score and rebound when given minutes. 4.6 PPG, 2.7 RPG

Kelan Martin: Underrated player who can shoot it. Averaged 14.2 PPG & 5.6 RPG on 50.0% FG/48.1% 3-PT/100% FT during the last five regular season games. 4.5 PPG, 40.0% 3-PT

Goga Bitadze: The 21-year-old improved his shooting and rebounding in his second season. Also put up 1.3 BPG. 5.1 PPG, 3.3 RPG

Chicago Bulls

Lauri Markkanen: Markkanen’s shooting numbers were very productive this season. Plays the right way and has solid strength. 13.6 PPG, 40.2% 3-PT

Thaddeus Young: The veteran’s playmaking skills stood out all year. Averaged a career high in assists. 12.1 PPG, 4.3 APG

Garrett Temple: Defends hard and can knock down the three ball. Always makes the right passes. 7.6 PPG, 2.2 APG

Daniel Theis: Played efficiently with both Boston & Chicago this season. Can shoot, defend and set solid screens. 9.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG

Tomas Satoransky: Always known to put up high assist numbers. Shot selection and free throw shooting stood out. 7.7 PPG, 4.7 APG

Denzel Valentine: Confident player who can shoot and handle the ball. Energy is always there. 6.5 PPG, 94.1% FT

Al-Farouq Aminu: Aminu was with the Magic and Bulls this season. Went for a 17-10-6 game for Orlando in March. 4.4 PPG, 4.8 RPG

Troy Brown Jr: Still only 21-years-old with solid experience. Versatility on both ends is underrated. 4.7 PPG, 3.1 RPG

Javonte Green: Spent time with Boston & Chicago this season. Athlete who runs the floor and can finish explosively. 3.6 PPG, 52.0% FG

Ryan Arcidiacono: Arcidiacono plays hard, can shoot and defend. Also is a good ball handler. 3.1 PPG, 37.3% 3-PT

Cleveland Cavaliers

Larry Nance Jr: Started most of the season for the injured Kevin Love. Averaged a career high 36.0% from three-point range. 9.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG

Taurean Prince: Spent time with Brooklyn before being traded to Cleveland. Shot the ball very consistently from deep. 9.5 PPG, 40.0% 3-PT

Cedi Osman: Averaged a career best 80.0% from the free throw line. Runs the floor, can pass and shoot. 10.4 PPG, 2.9 APG

Damyean Dotson: Showed off his ball handling and playmaking skills when guards were out. 3&D player who worked on different aspects of his game this season. 6.7 PPG, 2.0 APG

Dean Wade: Wade learned a lot in his first real NBA minutes. Shooting ability as a big fits today’s league. 6.0 PPG, 36.6% 3-PT

Lamar Stevens: The rookie brought great energy on both ends. Four year college player with experience in different roles. 4.1 PPG, 2.4 RPG

Dylan Windler: Windler’s cutting, shooting, passing and rebounding stood out early on. He underwent knee surgery in April. 5.2 PPG, 3.5 RPG

Isaiah Hartenstein: Certainly has the strength to play against powerful post guys. Screening and playmaking are underrated. 5.1 PPG, 3.9 RPG

Brodric Thomas: Undrafted rookie who spent time with Houston before going to Cleveland. Showed off NBA ready athleticism and ball handling skills. 3.9 PPG, 1.7 RPG

Mfiondu Kabengele: Former Clippers first round pick who ended the season with Cleveland. Knocked down three-pointers, rebounded and blocked shots. 2.4 PPG, 1.5 RPG

Quinn Cook: Cook spent time with the Lakers & Cavs in 2020-2021. Playmaking and shooting can help any team. 3.3 PPG, 42.3% 3-PT

Detroit Pistons 

Josh Jackson: Played very productive basketball off the bench on both ends. Shot a career best from the free throw line. 13.4 PPG, 4.1 RPG

Cory Joseph: Joseph spent the 2020-2021 season with Sacramento & Detroit. Experienced scoring and playmaking abilities. 8.2 PPG, 3.4 APG

Hamidou Diallo: Went off for a 35 point game in early May. Improved his jump shot and made the right passes. 11.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG

Isaiah Stewart: Very efficient rookie season. Stewart’s strength, rebounding and shot blocking are at high levels. 7.9 PPG, 1.3 BPG

Frank Jackson: Scoring and ball handling skills are polished. Played super consistent all year. 9.8 PPG, 40.7% 3-PT
