Real Madrid capture second straight Ciutat de L’Hospitalet tournament win

Real Madrid captured its second straight Torneig de Basquet Junior “Ciutat de L’Hospitalet” title and clinched a spot in the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Finals by easing past previously unbeaten rival FC Barcelona 87-55.

Madrid’s 15-year-old star Luka Docic lived up to his billing once again by collecting 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 7 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 25 – and a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Samba Ndiaye, who also made the All-Tournament Team, helped Madrid dominate the glass, outrebounding Barcelona 54-29, with 6 points and 14 rebounds.

Madrid will compete for the title of junior club champion of Europe at Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Madrid from May 14-17, 2015. The first qualifier for the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Finals was Stellazzurra Basketball Academy Rome, which won the Rome qualifying tournament in late December.

Blaz Mesicek of Union Olimpija Ljubljana was voted MVP of the tournament. He averaged 18.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2 steals in four games, leading his team to the semifinals. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Ndiaye and Doncic plus Amine Noua of ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne and Xabi Lopez of FIATC Joventut Badalona.
