The Los Angeles Lakers veteran guard Wesley Matthews played 27 minutes in a loss to the Clippers, which was 8 minutes above his season average.

A big part of the reason for his extended playing time in this game was his ability to guard perimeter shooters. According to the Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, the 34-year-old guard is likely to be a factor in playoffs when perimeter defense is required.

“Any matchup in the playoffs where they have elite perimeter players, Wes Matthews is likely going to be a factor in that series. He’s an exceptional perimeter defender,” Vogel said.

“He brings toughness to our team. I think you saw that tonight with how he competed and used his voice leading our group. He’s a tough dude. We’re lucky to have him. He’s certainly going to be a factor in matchups like this.”
