Chris Paul had 22 points and 13 assists as the Phoenix Suns defeated the Milwaukee Bucks in overtime. With 10,145 career assists, the 35-year-old point guard passed Lakers legend Magic Johnson for fifth place on the NBA all-time assists list. He is now less than 200 assists from Mark Jackson (10,334) at the fourth and Steve Nash (10,335) at the third.

After the game Paul talked about what this achievement means for him. “You know what, it’s a blessing, man. I don’t take this stuff for granted,” the 11-time NBA All-Star said.

“Give a huge shoutout to my team, all the people that make my world go round, seriously. 16 years, a lot of people don’t get a chance to say that. Magic Johnson is the GOAT when you talk about playing the point guard position. I’m honored and privileged but sh*t I ain’t done yet.”

The arrival of Paul to Phoenix this past offseason turned the team from barely being in playoff contention to one of the top teams in the Western Conference and the entire NBA. This season, he is averaging 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game.
