Rockets’ Sterling Brown assaulted in Miami

Houston Rockets guard Sterling Brown is expected to make a full recovery after what the team is calling “an assault” that left him with facial lacerations.

Last night, Sterling Brown was the victim of an assault. He had no prior knowledge of or interaction with the assailants. He suffered facial lacerations but will make a full recovery. Sterling is not playing tonight because of his prior knee injury.

The team says the incident occurred April 18 in Miami, where the Rockets have been before their game against the Miami Heat tonight.

Brown was jumped outside of a club, hit in the head with a bottle and needed medical attention into Monday, according to Shams Charania.

Head coach Stephen Silas spoke about the incident.

“I have spoken to him, and he’s feeling better,” said Silas. “Thankfully he’s gonna be okay. … It’s heart-wrenching. Rips your heart out. One of your guys, someone on your team that you care about. … Thankful number one that he’s gonna be okay, but also down about what happened.”

In 51 games, Brown is averaging 8.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
