The Utah Jazz were missing four key players against the Los Angeles Lakers, namely Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert, Derrick Favors and Donovan Mitchell. They made an adjustment by putting five players on the court that can shoot three-pointers.

According to Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, defending against such lineup was a challenge for Andre Drummond as it would have been to any big. “It’s a challenge for any big to play against five three-point shooters when they’re used to man in the paint,” he said postgame.

“The challenge for is that he’s so new to our system. He even though we can show him all the tape and take him through al the reps in practice and whatnot, it takes some time to get familiar with the scheme in real time against the opponent that you’re not sure what they’re gonna run and you have to have that cohesiveness with his teammates. It takes time.

“I thought he just competed through it. We changed the matchup a little bit. He got his hands on a lot of ball defensively which really created the third quarter run that was really good. It’s just gonna be one of those situations that the more opportunities more reps he gets playing against that the stronger he’ll be and the stronger we will be.”
