Donovan Mitchell expected to miss several games

An MRI on Utah Jazz All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell’s right ankle sprain revealed no structural damage, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

However, Mitchell is still expected to miss several games before he’s cleared to return.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury in the third quarter of the team’s 119-111 win over the Indiana Pacers on April 16 when he jumped to try to deflect a pass and came down awkwardly with his foot underneath Pacers guard Edmond Sumner.

Mitchell had to be helped off the floor.

X-rays came back negative.

Mitchell has averaged 29.6 points per game since the All-Star Break, the most by a Jazz player since Karl Malone averaged 30.5 points per game after the break in 1990-91, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Without Mitchell for the foreseeable future, the Jazz will rely more on players like Mike Conley, Jordan Clarkson and Joe Ingles.
