Jaylen Brown exploded with 40 points as he led the Boston Celtics to a road win against the Los Angeles Lakers. He made 17 out of 20 field goals, including 3 out of 5 three-pointers. It was the first home game for the reigning NBA champions with the fans in Staples Center.
After the game Lakers head coach was asked about the strategy of stopping Brown and why it didn’t work. “First of all, credit to him. A remarkable performance, 17 for 20 from a guard is really a special performance,” he said. “We didn’t come into the game double-teaming his because of a firepower of Walker and Tatum along with him.
“We tried to bring some double-teams when those guys were out. Weren’t that effective with it. And in the second half we were supposed to double-team far more effectively than we did.
We had several breakdowns that our coaching staff was not happy with in terms of when guys get hot, we got to slow them down, we got to bring more help and more double-teams. We were late and ineffective. So, disappointed in that part of the game. But credit to Brown for having a great performance.”
Both the Lakers and the Celtics kept their places in the standings after this game as both teams remained in the fifth place.
