Begic stays with Laboral Kutxa until the end of season

Laboral Kutxa Vitoria and center Mirza Begic have come to terms for the player to remain with the club for the remainder of the season.

Begic (2.16 meters, 29 years old) joined the club last month on a short-term deal to help bolster a frontcourt that had been depleted by injuries. The big man produced 5.8 points, 3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks – which would have led the league if he played the minimum amount of regular season games – in a reserve role over five Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season games.

He also posted 7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1 block in five Spanish League appearances. He has moved up the Euroleague’s career shots blocked chart to fourth all-time with 143 rejections.

A veteran of eight Turkish Airlines Euroleague seasons, Begic has also played for Union Olimpija Ljubljana, Zalgiris Kaunas, Real Madrid and Olympiacos Piraeus in Europe’s premier competition.

He has also featured for Geoplin Slovan Ljubljana and Triglav Kranj in Slovenia, Virtus Bologna in Italy, KK Zadar in Croatia and Huy Basket in Belgium. Begic helped Olimpija win consecutive Slovenian league and cup titles in 2008 and 2009 and won the Baltic League trophy with Zalgiris in 2010.

In his three seasons with Real Madrid, he helped the team reach the Euroleague Final Four in 2011 and 2013, and win the Spanish League and Cup double in 2012. And he won the 2013 FIBA Intercontinental Cup with Olympiacos.
