Andre Drummond has just recently joined the Los Angeles Lakers, but he is already showing signs of his leadership.

The 27-year-old center led the reigning NBA champions to a win against the Brooklyn Nets (126-101) with 20 points and 11 rebounds in 22 minutes of play. It was his third game with the Lakers and his second full game, as he left his debut game early with a torn toenail.

Head coach Frank Vogel was appreciative of Drummond’s early leadership as he spoke about it in the postgame press conference. “I think it’s just a great early sign of his leadership with this group,” he said. “We want everybody on our team to lead from every chair in the room. It’s not just Bron and AD. You just see him stepping up is a great early sign for us.

“There’s a reason we went out and got Drum. He can do that agains opposing centers. He can beat them up with his physicality in the post or on drives on the offensive glass.

He can more than hold his own and guard his position defensively as well as to pick all the pick and roll defensive coverages that we put him in as well. He’s a two-way player and it’s a great early sign to see him stepping up as a leader the way he did tonight.”
