The Orlando Magic are planning to waive center Khem Birch, who will likely sign with the Toronto Raptors, according to Shams Charania.

This move is a way to give Birch an opportunity to play more elsewhere, as the Magic are headed toward a rebuild and are focused on developing their young players, including big men Wendell Carter Jr. and Mo Bamba.

Birch is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The 28-year-old Montreal native was a key part of the Magic’s rotation earlier in the season and is averaging 5.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game (19.8 minutes per game) in 48 games.

One of Birch’s best games came on March 26 against the Portland Trail Blazers when he stuffed the stat sheet, recording 14 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks.

The Raptors have been looking for additional help at the center position and Birch will be able to help fill that role and play right away.
